The Fertility Monitor is a rule-based or expert artificial intelligence system. It incorporates rules for charting which have a long and effective history of use with natural family planning. These rules have been validated by thousands of women and hundreds of thousands of cycles.
As menstrual cycles are completed critical events are recorded in a history file. When cycles begin, the history file is interrogated to determine the exact set of rules to be set for a particular woman.
The history file itself consists of records representing 24 consecutive menstrual cycles. As history records age beyond the most recent 24 they are no longer carried. Consequently, the Fertility Monitor adjusts its programming in response to the current condition of your body and can be used for your entire reproductive life.

A woman notes the day to day changes of her body temperature and cervical mucus. At night she enters this information into her personal computer using the above screen. Next she presses a key and the Fertility Monitor tells her whether she might get pregnant if she has sex that evening.
